BUSD Passes Resolution 38 Proclaiming April 24, 2020, as the Burbank Unified School District’s Day of Commemoration of the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1923Burbank, CA- On Thursday, April 16, 2020, the Burbank Unified School District (BUSD) Board of Education unanimously passed Resolution 38 Proclaiming April 24, 2020, as the Burbank Unified School District’s Day of Commemoration of the Armenian Genocide of 1915-1923. The passage of the resolution happened during BUSD’s first virtual board meeting.
“Due to the new distance learning requirements following the COVID-19 pandemic, our district will not be commemorating the Armenian Genocide by having assemblies and guest lecturers at our schools like it has done in the past. The unanimous passage of this resolution at these challenging and uncertain times is a continuation of our district’s dedication towards justice. Justice for all those who have suffered the devastation of the Armenian Genocide. We will continue to provide teacher-training workshops and educational resources about all historic genocides, including the Armenian Genocide, to all of our high school social studies teachers and students,” said Dr. Armond Aghakhanian President of the Burbank Unified School District Board of Education.
The Armenian National Committee of America–Burbank advances the social, economic, cultural, and political rights of the area’s Armenian community and promotes its increased civic participation at the grassroots and public policy levels.
