Artsakh

Overview

The Republic of Artsakh (also known as Nagorno Karabakh) is a region adjacent to the Republic of Armenia that has contained an Armenian indigenous population for over 2,000 years. Despite international pressure for a cessation of hostilities, Azerbaijani forces have also launched direct attacks on the internationally recognized borders of the Republic of Armenia, targeting military and civilian infrastructure.

An Introduction to Artsakh

In this lesson, students will be introduced to the Republic of Artsakh (also known as Nagorno-Karabakh), its rich Armenian culture and Azerbaijan and Turkey’s repeated aggressions against Artsakh and the Armenian people.

Students will be able to:

Students will be able to explain that Artsakh is historically Armenian and also explain the different ways in which Azerbaijan and Turkey have terrorized, committed war crimes and ethnic cleansing against the Armenians of Artsakh and Armenians who once lived in Azerbaijan.
